A North Carolina dean with a commitment to global health equity has been named the new president of Wartburg College in Waverly.

Wartburg on Monday announced Rebecca Neiduski as its 18th leader — succeeding Darrel Colson, who is retiring at the end of the academic year.

Wartburg is a private liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and was permanently located in Waverly in 1935.

Neiduski is currently the dean of the School of Health Sciences at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina.

She's credited with leading efforts to establish the first undergraduate majors in the health sciences school and an accelerated program that combines undergraduate and graduate courses, executing Elon University's most recent strategic plan and advancing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts within the health sciences school.

Before Elon, Neiduski was a professor of occupational therapy at Concordia University in Wisconsin from 2013 to 2017 and led the Department of Occupational Therapy there. Before that, she was an associate professor of occupational therapy with tenure at Maryville University from 2002 to 2013.
