ASHT Invites You to Participate in a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Listening Session
ASHT is pleased to open registration for a listening session to learn from society members and professional stakeholders about their experiences as well as opportunities in the hand and upper extremity therapy community related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
In the past year, ASHT has taken steps to increase promotion of DEI within the organization and the hand and upper extremity therapy specialty at large. The newly formed DEI Committee embraced the charge to cultivate a strategic plan to launch ASHT on a sustainable DEI journey. The listening session marks one in a series of upcoming engagement activities.

DEI Listening Session FAQ
What is a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Listening Session?
A listening session is like a focus group – a facilitated discussion with a group of people, aimed at collecting information about their experiences, views and responses to questions about topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Why is ASHT organizing a DEI Listening Session?
This session is critical to better understand the strengths, barriers and opportunities for growth, and to move forward into the future with a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organization and specialty.
Do I need to be an ASHT member to participate?
No! You do not need to be an ASHT member to register for and participate in the listening session. We want to hear all voices in the hand and upper extremity therapy community. Registration for the Listening Session is free for both members and nonmembers.
Although, you do not need to be a member to participate, you do need to create an account to register. When registering, your email address will be added to ASHT’s database for future announcements and updates, but you can unsubscribe/opt out of these communications.
What will the DEI Listening Session look like?
The session will be conducted online through Zoom. Participants will be grouped into smaller breakout rooms that allow for more interaction and dialogue. Two facilitators from the ASHT DEI Committee will conduct these sessions. One facilitator will lead the session and the other will serve as notetaker.
How will the information be used?
The information collected as part of the registration process will be used only to coordinate the session and to inform the gathered feedback. Your participation, identity and responses will be kept confidential.
