Both in-person and virtual learning opportunities are offered through ASHT. Below is a comprehensive list of available educational offerings with links for registration and further details. Any additional information can also be found on the ASHT Education page.
Hand Therapy Review Course
This course is designed for those preparing to take the CHT Exam and can also be useful for new CHTs seeking to strengthen foundational knowledge. It provides a comprehensive review of evaluation and intervention strategies for common upper extremity diagnoses. The in-person course is expected at least twice next year, in Dallas in Spring 2026 and in Baltimore MD in Fall 2026. The virtual version includes 21 on-demand sessions and even a cadaver lab for an in-depth anatomical review. When the sessions are completed, a practice CHT exam awards you 20 continuing education credits upon passing.
There is a fee associated with this course, but the Mary Kasch Hand Therapy Certification Scholarship is available for application through the spring and awards one recipient yearly with funds for study materials as well as the CHT exam fee. ASHT members also receive a discount on registration. Not a member yet? You can sign up for a bundled membership and hand therapy review course with a discount on the page linked below.

ASHT Annual Meeting
The ASHT Annual Meeting is an opportunity for networking, hands-on workshops and clinical presentations. Next year, the meeting will take place in Milwaukee, WI. The dates are Thursday, October 8 to Saturday, October 10, with an optional Pediatric Specialty Day on Wednesday, October 7. You can also register for virtual access to plenary, scientific and concurrent sessions that are recorded at the conference. Virtual access opens two weeks after the conference and stays open until the following fall (of 2027). Members receive a discount on conference registration and virtual access; discounted rates for students, new CHTs and groups are also available.
Education on Tour
ASHT brings education to you with the Education on Tour traveling courses that deliver dynamic, evidence-based content across the country. These sessions are perfect for clinicians who prefer in-person learning. ASHT is currently offering two courses. Casting Motion to Mobilize Stiffness (CMMS) is an evidence-based protocol for rehabilitation of the stiff hand. CMMS is currently scheduled in Florida, Colorado, Wisconsin, North Carolina, New York, Ohio and Oklahoma for 2026.
Essentials of Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation is geared toward those with minimal or no prior experience in this specialty, perfect for recent graduates or more experienced therapists looking to make a transition to hand therapy. This course is available in a one- or two-day format and includes one day of lecture content on basic hand therapy diagnoses and interventions, and one day on basic orthotic fabrication. The Essentials course is currently scheduled once in Pennsylvania. More locations and dates are being added regularly. Members receive a discount on registration.
Hands-on Orthotics
For therapists looking to build and strengthen skills in orthotic fabrication, this one- or two-day course caters to professionals at any level of skill from beginners to advanced practitioners. This course is typically offered about 10 times throughout the year and is available for booking by employers or organizations anywhere in the US. Prefer virtual education? The Virtual Hands-on Orthotics Course offers 15 on-demand demonstrations for remote learning at your own pace.
Webinars and Online Learning
ASHT’s webinars provide convenient access to expert-led sessions on topics ranging from sports rehabilitation to advanced orthotic techniques to product demonstrations by innovative vendors. These occur live and last one hour, and there are usually 8-10 per calendar year. Each webinar is recorded and archived; 90 webinars (and counting!) are available for you to engage with at your own pace. This offering is included in your ASHT membership at no additional cost to you, but you do need to register for each live session. Please check your email for announcements regarding live webinars.
ASHT is always looking for presenters. You can indicate your interest and submit a topic through the presenter application form.
Upper Extremity Institute
The UE Institute offers a structured online study group designed to specifically support therapists with 0–3 years of experience. Each month, a case study is discussed, and the presenter details their clinical reasoning for the intervention plan. Time is allotted for an interactive Q&A session. This is at no additional cost to members. Registration is required and is open for sessions now through February 2026.
Live Pediatric Case Reviews
Similar to the UE Institute, these pediatric case reviews occur once a month. They detail a case, including diagnoses, objective measures, and interventions, with a particular focus on clinical reasoning. There is time for questions included. Registration is required, and this offering is also included in your ASHT membership.
