New: Membership Category for Fellows Studying Hand Therapy

Posted by Laurie Humiston, MS, OTR/L, CHT 12/03/2021

In ASHT’s ongoing commitment to support learners, the society has created a Fellowship subcategory within our Associate membership options.

The field of hand and upper extremity specialists, with the support of the Hand Therapy Certification Commission, has invested in mentoring occupational and physical therapists pursing this specialty practice career. Further, in the coming year, AOTA will embark on the largest expansion of their Accredited Fellowship Program in its history. One-to-one mentored instruction for health profession trainees results in clinicians with improved clinical reasoning skills, treatment rooted in evidence-based practice and strong professional and communication skills.

ASHT, consistent with our allied organizations will now support these Fellows with an affordable entry-level membership. The benefits of this level include access to the Student e-Community, the Upper Extremity Institute, the Student-Led Journal Club and member rates for webinars and continuing education for the duration of the year-long fellowship.

This membership category is open to any registered or licensed occupational or physical therapist who is participating in a full-time, residential fellowship program that pays with a stipend or a decreased salary. Candidates must send a letter from their fellowship coordinator to confirm fellowship participation. For complete details, please visit our Membership Categories page.
