Webinar Description:
Participants will be instructed how to develop a customized program that is based on scientific principles and current evidence of injury prevention and management. This course will review the unique risk factors facing musicians and common causes of upper extremity musculoskeletal injury. We will review assessment methods to correctly identify faulty movement patterns and poor practice habits. We will demonstrate how to use movement and functional analysis to identify the source of the problem and develop customized recommendations for a range of instruments and conditions. We will discuss methods to optimize musculoskeletal health and improve performance. We will address ergonomic requirements specific to the instrument and learn how to select the correct exercises and rehabilitation strategies to prevent and manage common injuries in musicians and guide safe return to play.

 

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  1. Identify common patterns and causes of movement dysfunction in a range of instrumental musicians
  2. Identify how to conduct an individualized assessment that is based on the specific needs of the individual performer and instrument
  3. Apply music health principles and prevention strategies to avoid performance-related injuries.
  4. Choose ergonomic solutions and setups for a variety of musical instruments and playing conditions
  5. Identify common musician injuries and rehabilitation strategies for treatment
