Hand therapists provide critical, timely care to patients with traumatic partial-hand limb loss. During the early healing stages, preparing the hand for function in life can prepare the hand for function in a prosthesis. For many people, prosthesis adoption has the power to positively impact a person’s recovery of meaning, value and purpose. Getting a prosthesis is a multi-step process which involves an interdisciplinary team of surgeon, therapist, prosthetist and device manufacturer. This webinar will help guide therapists through the early steps to screen patients for prosthetic intervention with Naked Prosthetics. Information is evidence-based and accessible for all levels of hand therapy practitioners.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
- List at least two psychosocial impacts which a person may experience after traumatic partial-hand limb loss
- Identify how a patient’s hand presentation, or level of amputation, is important when screening for current available prosthetic designs
- Describe the importance of assessing a patient’s goals during prosthetic candidacy screening
- Identify the two types of prosthetic designs made by Naked Prosthetics
- List at least one hand function which could be recovered with the addition of a Naked Prosthetics device designed for a middle phalanx amputation.
- Locate additional screening resources for therapists offered by Naked Prosthetics.
