NOMINATION INFORMATION
Description
This distinguished award recognizes an ASHT member who has made contributions through research to the science and practice of hand rehabilitation, which have subsequently changed hand and upper extremity therapy professional standards.
Eligibility
Nominees for the MacDermid Lifetime Scientific Award in Hand Therapy must be a member of ASHT in good standing for at least 5 years who has demonstrated career-long research-related endeavors that have had a lasting and transformative impact on the science and practice of hand and upper extremity therapy.
Members of the ASHT Board of Directors and the Awards Committee are ineligible for nomination.
Process
The Awards Committee will accept nominations from the ASHT Research Division, from the American Hand Therapy Foundation board, and from the Journal of Hand Therapy editorial review board, as well as from current ASHT members.
The Awards Committee will evaluate the nominations received through an established and structured selection process and recommend one individual who best meets the award criteria to the ASHT Board of Directors for final approval.
The award is announced at the ASHT Annual Meeting. The recipient will be given a plaque (or equivalent award) and a $1,000 honorarium. The award recipient will present their research contributions during the MacDermid Lectureship at the following year’s Annual Meeting. The award recipient will also receive complimentary registration to the Annual Meeting at which their lecture is presented.
Frequency
One MacDermid Lifetime Scientific Award in Hand Therapy will be considered every year.
Requirements
- Completed online nomination form. Nominator must write to each applicable category on the nomination form with inclusion of supportive data from the nominee’s CV.
- Letter of nomination from the ASHT Research Division or designee, the Journal of Hand Therapy editor or designee, the American Hand Therapy Foundation President or designee, or other ASHT members in good standing. This letter should describe the nominee’s suitability for this award, particularly their contributions and impact to hand and upper extremity therapy. The letter is limited to a maximum of 250 words.
- Nominee’s current curriculum vitae with electronic links to the nominee’s publications.
This completed application must be submitted no later than August 20, 2025.
