Webinar Description: This webinar explores the theoretical foundation of Judy Colditz's Casting Motion to Mobilize Stiffness (CMMS) approach for managing the stiff hand. Participants will gain an understanding of how abnormal movement patterns contribute to stiffness and why these patterns can be difficult to address using traditional therapy interventions.

The webinar will review the scientific rationale and evidence supporting the components of CMMS, provide clinical reasoning strategies for identifying and evaluating abnormal movement patterns and discuss how targeted casting can facilitate more effective motion. Participants will also be introduced to various cast design options and practical applications to support improved patient outcomes.

Presented by: Kantessa Stewart, OTR/L, CHT, & Katie Pisano, OTR/L, CHT

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  1.  Define Casting Motion to Mobilize Stiffness (CMMS).
  2. List components of the CMMS technique.
  3. Identify the scientific principles underlying CMMS.
  4. Identify patients appropriate for the CMMS technique.
  5. Evaluate abnormal movement patterns contributing to hand stiffness.
  6. Analyze the different cast design options and their clinical applications.
