Webinar Description:
Peer-reviewed and published treatment guidelines with clinical outcomes are available for management of the patient with an extensor tendon injury. Achieving exceptional clinical outcomes often requires altering the time frame and techniques within established guidelines. This webinar provides clinical reasoning, evaluation methods and treatment suggestions during the early phases of digital extensor tendon management to minimize the need for additional treatments in the late phases of treatment. Complications such as extension lag, extensor attenuation and extensor tendon adherence are discussed with emphasis on prevention of these complications.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  1. Identify the structures involved when performing differential diagnosis of a digital extension lag in order to direct treatment toward the responsible structures.
  2. Identify common complications during the early phase of rehabilitation of the patient with a digital extensor tendon injury.
  3. Identify modifications to protective orthoses and designs of additional orthoses used to improve range of motion to address complications developing during early phases of rehabilitation of digital extensor tendon injuries.
  4. Describe tips, tricks, exercises and functional activities that can prevent or resolve these complications.
