Let's Make Some Elbow Room: Tennis Elbow
Etiology, Assessment, and Evidence-Based Treatment for Lateral Epicondylitis
Presented by: Taylor Pendergast, MS, OTR/L, CHT
This presentation will explore the pathophysiology of lateral epicondylitis. We will touch upon the differences between lateral epicondylitis vs osis. We will review clinical diagnostic clusters, provocative testing, and a comprehensive therapy approach that balances rest/activity modification and tendon loading with meaningful recovery.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Identify the primary anatomical structures and biomechanical factors contributing to the development of lateral epicondylitis.
- Perform and interpret clinical diagnostic tests, including Cozen’s test, Mill’s test, and Maudsley’s test.
- Differentiate between acute inflammatory stages and chronic tendinopathy to guide treatment selection.
- Develop a progressive therapeutic exercise program incorporating rest, brace options, proximal strengthening, and gradual tendon loading through isometric, eccentric, and isotonic exercises.
