Webinar Description: This 90-minute webinar designed to bridge surgical insights with hand and upper extremity therapy practice. Featuring expert perspectives from both the United States and Canada, the webinar will cover:
- Flexor tendon repair in 2026
- Therapeutic management of zone I and zone II injuries
- Therapeutic management of secondary complications
The session is a 75-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute live Q&A session with the panel.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe current concepts and evidence-based approaches to flexor tendon repair and rehabilitation.
- Compare rehabilitation strategies for optimizing tendon healing, tendon excursion and functional outcomes following flexor tendon repair.
- Recognize common secondary complications following flexor tendon repair and select appropriate therapeutic interventions to address these complications.
- Apply clinical decision-making principles to modify rehabilitation interventions based on tendon healing, patient presentation and functional goals.
CE Credit: 1.5 continuing education hours, or 0.15 CEUs

Dr. Lalonde is a Professor of Surgery at Dalhousie University St John, New Brunswick Canada and the current ASSH Council Outreach and International Relations Director. He is the Past President of the Canadian Society for Surgery of the Hand, Past Chairman of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Past President of the American Association for Hand Surgery, Past President of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, and an Honorary Member of the American Society of Hand Therapists.
Dr. Lalonde continues to share his expertise around the world and has been an invited speaker to more than 200 international presentations and an invited professor at over 35 educational facilities in Canada and the United States. He has more than 100 peer reviewed journal publications and 10 book chapters and has been a past speaker at the ASHT Annual Meeting. His most recent publication is Wide Awake Hand Surgery, a surgeon’s (and therapist’s) guide to Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet Surgical technique, or WALANT.
Kantessa Stewart has been an Occupational Therapist since 1999 and a Certified Hand Therapist since 2007. She graduated from The Ohio State University earning her Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Professions in 1999 and attended Drexel University, obtaining a Certificate in the Advanced Practice of Hand and Upper Quarter Rehabilitation in 2007. Kantessa has spent the majority of her career in out-patient orthopedics. She started in a hospital-based clinic for the first 10 years of her career, moving to a physician-owned practice for the last 16 years. Kantessa has developed transitional work programs providing specialized hand therapy in manufacturing facilities, expanded a mall hand therapy program within a local hospital, and opened hand therapy satellite clinics for the physician-owned practice where she is employed.
Kantessa has worked diligently to expand the knowledge of Hand Therapy in western Ohio. She has developed sound programs with skilled therapists, provided continuous learning opportunities for staff and started the Dayton Hand Therapy Group, scheduling bimonthly continuing education. Kantessa has lectured on various topics of the upper extremity at both state and national conferences including ASHT, OOTA and ASSH, Virtual Platforms and has taught Orthosis Fabrication at Rhodes State College. Currently she is employed within the Hand Center of Southwestern Ohio/Orthopedic Associates as a Clinical Manager, carrying a full patient caseload. She collaborates with the surgeons on protocol development, assists in Journal Club planning, organizes staffing in therapy clinics and serves as a clinical specialist within the Hand Therapy Department.
Kantessa thrives on challenges and strives to search for solutions for patients not responding to traditional therapy techniques. Her interest in CMMS began after taking a Virtual CMMS Course taught by Robyn Midgley. Since then she has worked hard to utilize Judy Colditz’s technique in the clinic to help patients with limited motion not responding to their courses of treatment. Kantessa continued to further develop her understanding of the CMMS technique by mentoring from Judy Colditz to problem-solve difficult cases. She assists in leading the bimonthly CMMS Discussion Group sponsored by BraceLab and worked with a team of hand therapists to develop the one and two day Hands-on Casting Motion to Mobilize Stiffness Travelling course for ASHT released in December 2024. Kantessa is passionate about sharing the CMMS technique with other therapists because of the change it has made in her own practice and the successful outcomes she has obtained with her patients.

Joey Pipicelli graduated from Western University with a MScOT in 2003 and became a Certified Hand Therapist in 2008. He has been working as a Hand Therapist at the Roth | McFarlane Hand and Upper Limb Centre (RM-HULC) in London, Ontario since 2009. Currently, he serves as Coordinator of the Chinchalkar Hand Therapy Fellowship program within the RM-HULC. He is a Lecturer at Western University with the School of Occupational Therapy and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation Advanced Health Care Practice program with in the Faculty of Health Sciences. He teaches orthotic fabrication and various facets of upper extremity rehabilitation. Within CSHT he has served as the Annual Meeting Conference Program Co-Chair in 2012 and 2016, Scientific Chair in 2010 and 2011 and held the role of Regional Representative for South Western Ontario for more than 10 years. Joey is passionate about sharing his knowledge with students and therapists who have an interest in hand therapy practice and participates in clinical teaching to medical students, residents, and orthopaedic and plastic surgery Fellows during their training at the RM-HULC. He has been an invited presenter at CSHT, ASHT, ASSH and IFSHT Meetings on multiple occasions. For the past 2 years he has served CSHT as Vice-President which has allowed him to gain knowledge and experience on the policies and procedures of the Society. He is excited to serve as President alongside his elected executive committee.
