Shoulder Impingement: Current Concepts in Diagnosis and Rehabilitation

Presented by: Kristiana Maggard, MS, OTR/L, CHT

Description

Shoulder impingement is marked by persistent pain, joint stiffness, and weakness in the shoulder that can worsen over time and cause debilitating limitations in activity and sleep.  This webinar will dissect the biomechanics of the shoulder, moving beyond traditional views to understand the full kinetic chain's role in impingement. We will discuss evidence-based assessment with a focus on tests that offer high clinical reliability. Treatment techniques, including advanced scapular motor control along with a wide range of strengthening exercises to treat everything from acute to chronic shoulder impingement, will be provided.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Use special tests and clinical observation to correctly identify shoulder impingement in the evaluation of shoulder pain.

  • Develop a treatment plan for both acute and chronic shoulder impingement.

  • Prescribe appropriate exercises for a successful home program.

  • Gain confidence in the application of therapeutic techniques to alleviate shoulder pain and improve function for the patient with shoulder impingement.
