Learning Objectives:
At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Identify 2 early clinical signs and symptoms of compartment syndrome in the pediatric forearm to support timely recognition and referral for medical management.
2. Explain the pathophysiology and progression of Volkmann’s ischemia and how it impacts muscle, nerve, and functional development in children.
3. Describe the surgical procedures commonly used in the management of pediatric Volkmann’s Ischemia.
4. List 3 rehabilitation strategies for managing post-operative functional impairments including range of motion interventions, splinting considerations, and caregiver education.
5. Recognize 2 postoperative red flags and/or clinical indicators that require modification of therapeutic interventions and/or communication with the surgical team.

The Pediatric Case Reviews is a series of monthly live online case presentations of pediatric upper extremity diagnoses. Each month a case will be presented to include a brief description of the diagnosis, objective findings, and therapeutic interventions. The presenter will also discuss their clinical decision-making process and how they navigated any challenges.
