Zak Mahmood, MD

Dr. Mahmood was born in Phoenix, AZ and moved around a bit before moving to Niceville, FL with his parents at the age of 5. He is an only child and attributes his quiet, introspective nature to that, as attested to by Kailey Bedford, the OT he works with. Dr. Mahmood attended Niceville High School and upon graduating, enrolled at the University of Miami, where he completed his BS in biology as well as medical school. Towards the end of medical school, he married his amazing wife Noor.

Dr. Mahmood completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Miami while his wife Noor completed her masters in nutrition at Florida International University. He jokes that she failed at keeping him from gaining weight during those years of residency. On a different subject, Dr. Mahmood contends that he used to eat fast food about 10 times per week during those years.

Upon completion of residency, he did his hand fellowship at Brown University in Providence Rhode Island, where his first son was born. Since then, he has moved back to Ocala Florida where his second son was born. Dr. Mahmood has had the privilege of working very closely with some great hand therapists, an honor many in private practice do not have. One of the most skilled, compassionate, and knowledgeable has been Kailey Bedford.
