Faculty Profiles
Cindy Glaenzer, PT, CHT
Cindy received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy degree in 1981 from Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis. She became a Certified Hand Therapist in 1993. Cindy has been a lecturer and lab assistant in the Doctoral Program of Physical Therapy at Washington University and St Louis University for many years. Her teaching responsibilities include hand therapy focus study, upper extremity evaluation and treatment and her favorite, splinting. Cindy was also a Course Master at Washington University. She has maintained a clinical practice as the Supervisor of the Hand Therapy Clinic at Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL, since 1993 and prior to that worked for 10 years at Washington University/Barnes Hospital in the Orthopedic Center for Upper Extremity Rehabilitation. Cindy enjoys being inspired by nature while traveling, hiking and scuba diving with her children, Bryan and Katelyn.
Susanne Higgins, MHS, OTR/L, CHT
Susanne Higgins has been a CHT since 1992 and an active member of the ASHT since 1988. Susanne graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. She earned her Master of Health Sciences degree from the University of Indianapolis in 2010. She currently is serving as a member of the Education Division of ASHT.
Susanne is an Assistant Professor in the Occupational Therapy Program at Midwestern University and teaches courses such as kinesiology, orthotics, upper extremity rehabilitation, physical agent modalities and anatomy. She has presented continuing education courses on a variety of topics related to upper extremity rehabilitation. Her clinical practice is in orthopedic outpatient settings in the western suburbs of Chicago.
Lorna Kahn, PT, CHT
Lorna Kahn, PT, CHT, is a graduate of Washington University. She has been a hand therapist for over 20 years and is currently employed by the Milliken Hand Rehabilitation Center with The Rehabilitation Institute of St Louis. As liaison to the Center for Nerve Injury and Paralysis at Washington University for ten years, Lorna has developed a sub-specialty in the area of peripheral nerve. She presents both locally and nationally and has coauthored several papers on the subject of nerve transfers. Lorna has been a guest lecturer and lab assistant at the Washington University Physical Therapy program for over 20 years.
Kim Kraft, DPT, PT, CHT
Currently, Kim is a staff therapist at the Hand to Shoulder Therapy Center and an Assistant Professor at the University of Indianapolis. Prior to moving to Indiana, she practiced at Princeton University and Hamilton Physical Therapy in New Jersey. Kim enjoys sharing clinical experiences with other therapists as an enthusiastic volunteer for the Education Division of the American Society of Hand Therapists, the Hand Section of the APTA, and as an active member of the American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Therapists.
David Levy, MS, OTR/L, CHT
David earned a Master of Science Degree from Washington University School of Medicine’s Program in Occupational Therapy in 1998 and became a Certified Hand Therapist through the Hand Therapy Certification Commission in 2005. He has been an instructor at Washington University School of Medicine’s Program in Occupational Therapy, St. Louis University’s Occupational Therapy Program, and an adjunct Professor at Maryville University’s School of Health Professions. In addition, David organizes a regional continuing education group and has presented on a variety of topics in hand therapy at both local and national meetings. He has achieved success in the treatment of a wide variety of upper extremity diagnoses, including flexor and extensor tendon injuries, complex multi-trauma, nerve injuries, and CMC Osteoarthritis.
Rhonda Powell, OTD, OTR/L, CHT (course facilitator)
Rhonda is a 1998 graduate of Washington University’s School of Medicine Program in Occupational Therapy. In 2010 she graduated from Rocky Mountain University’s Doctoral Program in OT with a focus in hand rehabilitation. Rhonda has been an adjunct faculty member at Washington University and Maryville University teaching advanced seminar courses in upper extremity rehabilitation. She has presented at ASHT conferences on research in flexor tendon rehabilitation and presented at ASSH conferences on flexor and extensor tendon rehabilitation. Rhonda is both a reviewer and a published author for the Journal of Hand Therapy. She is a senior therapist at the Milliken Hand Rehabilitation Center on the campus of Washington University Medical School where she has worked since 1999.
