Presented by: Jenna Millman, OTR/L CHT

Format:  45 minutes presentation, 15 minutes Q&A

Webinar Description:
Immobilization and mobilization orthoses are a necessary part of the whole-picture rehabilitation program in order to promote optimal tissue healing and restore function. Orthotic designs have evolved over the years with advancing evidence-based research.

This presentation will include a variety of thermoplastic sheet materials, thermoplastic Orficast materials, Dynasyst outrigger options (Orfitubes, Isoforce, coils, wires).

These products are used for fabrication of immobilization and mobilization orthoses in the treatment of upper extremity conditions for the purpose of proper tissue healing or to restore function, including conservative treatment as well as post-operatively for pathological conditions related to bone, nerve, tendon/muscle and ligaments of the upper extremity.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  1. Describe the different properties of thermoplastic splinting materials and how this relates to selecting the appropriate material for fabricating specific orthoses
  2. Describe outrigger options for the fabrication of mobilization orthoses in the context of upper extremity dysfunction
  3. List resources in orthotic fabrication

Attendees earn 1.0 contact hour or 0.10 CEUs
