Learning Objectives:
At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Identify common motor and sensory challenges that emerge after tendon transfers in pediatric patients with post-stroke hemiplegia.
2. Recognize signs of compensatory movement patterns that interfere with activation of transferred tendons in the hand and wrist.
3. Describe the role of sensory re-education, proprioceptive input, and graded exposure in addressing tactile defensiveness and poor tactile discrimination.
4. Explain how neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) and constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) can be used to target persistent deficits, including limited thumb extension and developmental disregard.
5. Determine appropriate intervention strategies to support functional recovery when progress is limited by both surgical and neurologic factors.

The Pediatric Case Reviews is a series of monthly live online case presentations of pediatric upper extremity diagnoses. Each month a case will be presented to include a brief description of the diagnosis, objective findings, and therapeutic interventions. The presenter will also discuss their clinical decision-making process and how they navigated any challenges.
